UNITED KINGDOM FORESTRY COMMISSION TO HOST CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES AT ALICE HOLT FOREST
With Christmas rapidly approaching, Alice Holt Forest, part of the new tiffany South Downs National Park, is the place for some festive adventures with the Forestry Commission this December. There’s something for the whole family, from Christmas trees, wreaths, willow stars and candle making to forest clue trails and a perfect family gift.
Christmas trees are on sale in the car park next to the education centre from December 5. So make it a perfect family outing to buy your Christmas tree this year, with a walk around the forest, a play in the woods and a coffee and mince pie at the cafe.
Adults can try their hand at making their own Christmas decorations in the workshops taking silver bangles place on December 2 and 3, using natural materials from the forest. Evergreen wreaths bring the look and smell of the forest into your home and willow stars look beautiful on tables or trees. There are also Babes in the Woods and Little Explorer special Christmas sessions for children from 14 months up to four years old on December 8, 9 and 10. Toddlers and pre-schoolers can join the education team for a short winter walk in the woods, making beeswax candles, pine cone bird feeders or wooden Christmas tree decorations and join in with songs and festive stories and games.
Running from December 5 to 23, there is a Christmas clue trail for the children’s holidays with clue sheets from the cafe and prizes available for all completed entries.
Prices range from £9 per child for the Babes in the Wood and Little Explorers Christmas silver rings Specials to £18 for adult craft workshops and include refreshments and a gift for children.
The new Alice Holt Discovery Pass is an ideal family Christmas present, available from the cafe or forest office. With a Discovery Pass your friends or family can experience adventure in the forest all year round, from weekend walks and den building to ‘Babes in the Wood’ or ancient. At just £35, it covers parking for a year at Alice Holt, two free child tickets to Birdworld and discounts for the Holt cafe and Go Ape!
